Process and knowledge management

Building blocks of a page

What a page of the knowledge platform can do, each block shown with a small example.

Text and structure

Every page is divided into chapters; the contents in the margin are built from them automatically, and every chapter can be linked directly. Terms that need explaining sit in a definition box:

Collapsible sections

Background: why collapse?

Derivations, long examples or background wait collapsed. Readers who only need the result read on; those who want the detail expand it. The search also finds collapsed text.

  • Chapters structured, content written

Sketches

Not everything is a workflow. For relationships, first ideas or structures there is the sketch, drawn as on a whiteboard:

Linking and searching

Pages refer to each other, for example from the process metrics to modelling with BPMN, and every page links the matching service. The search at the top left (or Ctrl K, ⌘ K on a Mac) searches all pages in full text, including tables, diagrams and collapsed sections, and jumps straight to the chapter.

Sources

Where a page uses ideas, models or standards from others, a superscript number marks it, as with the critical path above.1 It leads to the full reference on the Sources page, which cites every source of the site. Hovering the number shows author and year.
